Akoma means heart in the Akan language of the Asante of West Africa. The heart is the innermost part of an entity. It is foundational, and it symbolizes love, goodwill, patience, faithfulness, fondness, endurance, and consistency. Akoma Consulting believes that leadership development is the foundation of any organization because leaders play a critical role ensuring the growth, purpose, direction, and motivation of organizations. Akoma Consulting evaluates the historical and challenges of today and develops leaders that can plan for successful tomorrows through consistency, patience, endurance, and sound leadership strategies.

MARIA LAWSON-DAVENPORT, Ed.D
Founder and Principal
Dr. Lawson-Davenport is an expert in leadership, adult education, curriculum development, remediation, and cultural proficiency training. As an experienced educator, she has worked with a extensive range of learner populations from middle school to adults in a wide variety of educational settings. She has a proven track record of improving academic success in underserved populations and designing and implementing remediation services in educational settings.
Dr. Lawson-Davenport is also proficient in cultural awareness, multicultural education, and cultural proficiency. She has developed training programs for cultural proficiency training for educators from K-12 through higher education. She is a leader in providing resources and frequently presents at state-wide and national conferences in topics like study skills, cultural proficiency, multicultural education, media literacy, instructional strategies, best teaching practices, foundations in education, and reading skills. She also has extensive experience in curriculum design, implementing and designing SMART goals for educators and professionals, adult learning theory (self-directed learning, transformative learning, reflective learning, and andragogy).
